Brothers,
The match yesterday afternoon under the blistering 2:30pm sun was a keenly fought affair with the match ending 2-1 in VI's favour. The boys performed admirably, with pride and passion; and when the final whistle blew, a few of the boys could not hold back their tears. The college spirit is clearly evident with these Preppies!
The boys were on top as the clock ticked down but just could not find the equaliser. It was a far cry from previous annual matches, when VI would win by 4 goals or more and our boys firing blanks. Prep School 09 were clearly nervous and overawed with the occasion of playing in front of a full cheering squad and conceded in the first minute. They soon settled down and started to man-mark the VI boys better and ended the first half one down. It was a match riddled with fouls and the PBSM (Red Crescent) had to work overtime, carrying the stretcher in and out the field numerous times. VI went two up on a break and they were clearly relieved to widen the gap, with the scorer tearing off his shirt ala EPL, earning a yellow card in the process.
Koleq pressed on and earned a penalty due to a blatant handball. Captain Ashman coolly beat the keeper and in doing so broke the MCKK vs VI Form 1 duck. The boys kept up the pressure but it wasn't to be. After the customary handshake, the boys stayed on the field in a huddle with us trying to console Ashman who was in tears. They then marched in a single line to the cheering squad to thank the seniors for the support and was given a rousing applause. Later at the prize giving ceremony, Captain Ashman was named Man of the Match, well done Ashman!
Maybe the boys felt that they had let MCKK, the old boys and everyone down but we thought they gave it their all and are very proud of this team. I was told that VI is a FAM project school with many former U-12 national and state team with a proper full time coach and active in the youth leagues around KL. Our boys performed admirably considering they only had a few 4th and 5th formers coaching them and Amir Bahari C85 and a couple of his mates coaching them for 5 sessions. Amir and Bob (non MCOB former Project Barcelona player) was in KK from Wednesday to prepare the boys. He was there the previous week too for 3 days, taking time off from work. Kudos to Amir Bahari, his brother and co.
Many thanks again to Class of 89 for their generous cash contribution and Class of 96 for the equipment and balls. The boys are really grateful and surely when they become old boys, they too will give back to koleq as all of you have done.
This does not end here of course. For the rest of the year they will be training together with the 2nd formers and a proper coach in preparation for U-14 Liga Sekolah Premier. We also hope to arrange some friendlies with other schools.
For now, the boys are learning to deal with the pain of disappointment that will surely make them stronger and victory sweeter when it comes! Well done to the First Formers 2009! Will put on some photos on facebook shortly.
Salam
Amir
ps. I met with Bro RAS 78 who is VI PIBG YDP, hope he can give a few comments on the First Formers game.
The seniors lost their game 4-1 after taking a first minute lead and holding on to it until half time. VI squad has a player who plays for Polis in the Liga Super and another who is the son of Zainal Abidin Hassan, who was named man of the match. Rugby was a one sided affair I was told. Koleq did not even put in the first 15 but the 5th form squad and score was like 50 something - nil? (So I'm not sure why the VI boys did the hakka at the end of the day yesterday!)
VI parents came in two bus loads yesterday to MCKK so MCOBs should go next year to VI in numbers eh?
