I am quite concern on the implementation of this project when not properly administered, knowing pretty well that here we are, trying our best to enlist this building as part of our "World" Heritage Site, since this building is nearing 100 years, and on its own, could be listed for National Heritage. It is well and good that we get donations or sponsorship to upgrade facilities but we cannot be simply just doing them ad hoc. We have to abide by certain rules under the conservation guidelines, which otherwise would defeat the purpose.
On another note, why were we at MCOBA Heritage not informed of such proposal, before it was executed? Otherwise, a proper advice would have been given by the Committee.
The installations of the homogeneous tile flooring too, would require proper procedure. I also question on the word "homogeneous", or is there any specification to verify this or what sort of homogeneous tiles?
The normal procedure of maintaining the integrity of the original building design is that the existing floor level should remain and thus the previous floor screed should be hacked, removed, in order to install the new finish tile level to match that existing level. That should be the correct procedure, similar to when doing road resurfacing, that the old top surface layer scrapped before resurfacing. Otherwise the door thresholds and steps, especially the first bottom riser to the stairs would not be the same as the rest of the flight.
Maybe I am overtly concern, but I am adamant that whatever that benefit all us learned members, that we who are in the know, should be asked for our opinions.
I remain opinionated.

This project was carried out after consultation and approval of the PIBG Committee and the College administration. FYI, the corridors and common room of Prep School has been tiled for some time now. The West and East Wing Dorms of the Big School was also tiled several years back.

Salam, Amir on behalf of Kingtho Class of 84

Regarding conservation
Having participated in a number of conservation efforts, I understand Bro Wooer's concern regarding the need to properly handle the project. Although I have not seen it first hand, I notice the floor indeed raised by one or two inches (comparing the first step of the stair).

However the good will of Class of 84 must be applauded for their continuous effort in helping MCKK and not let this issue dwarf the contribution made. Of course, we do need to be aware of any plan to facelift any building in MCKK due to its historical nature.

On a side note, darn, there goes the ghost stories once the red screed is covered. smilies/tongue.gif
