Bros all,
I have been requested by the Caucus Chairman Bro Hamid Ibrahim to submit a brief report on the above event which was held this past Saturday, 7th August 2010. So, here goes....
The day started at the compound of MCOBA Building around 9 am where participants assembled for pick up by bus. We left in the plum-coloured Scomi bus at 9.15 am after allowing the late comers to trickle in. Sadly, out of 29 confirmed names only 18 turned up by 9.15am. Regret to note that Tan Sri Prez also had to miss the trip due to other commitment. Special mention to Dato' Hamidin C53 who I was told was the first to arrive well before 9am.
The trip to Sg Choh, Rawang took about 45 minutes. To the uninitiated, Sg Choh's claim to fame is being the birthplace of Erra Fazira. If anyone does not know who Erra is, I can't help you.... Back to the report.
Upon arrival. the contingent were greeted by among others, MCOB Shah Hakim C82, Group CEO of Scomi, MCOB Syahrunizam Samsudin C90, President Scomi Engineering and En Azmi, COO, Scomi Engineering. Also greeting the visitors were about 10 MCOBs who were members of Scomi staff, most of whom were managers and engineers involved in monorail production.
First agenda of the visit was a presentation by Syahrunizam on Scomi Group, with emphasis on Scomi Engineering's monorail product. The briefing was a lively exchange whereby curios MCOBS asked in-depth questions about monorail systems. At the end of the session, MCOBs present gained appreciation of the merits of monorail systems. Besides lowers cost and more environmentally friendly, it was demonstrated how the current monorail systems were able to compete with other forms pf mass rapid transit systems in terms of carrying capacity.
After a short refreshment break, the delegation was taken on atour of the production facilities but not before a group photo session with monorail on the background. Monorail factory was the first stop. During the tour the members were briefed about the monorail production and were shown some of the critical component manufacturing. They were able to see live work on the train, as the production workers were busy working on monorail trains for Scomi's Mumbai project. Everyone was impressed with the amount of technology involved and the fact that these were 100% Malaysian made.
After the monorail factory, the party were taken to visit the coach/bus factory. The members were briefed about the production of bus and coaches. They were shown the different types of products that can be built in the facility. These include different types of buses like city buses, inter-city coaches, luxury single or double decker buses. Scomi also has the expertise to build special purpose vehicles such as garbage compactors, road tankers, aircraft refuellers, ambulance and security vehicles.
The factory tour ended around 12 noon and the delegates were treated to a lunch of Beriani kambing at the facility compound. After a hearty lunch and a lot of talks, the visit came to an end around 1.30 pm. The members boarded the bus back to MCOBA building after thanking Scomi for having them.
Sdr Hamid's offer to a durian treat on the way back was not taken up by the members. Many of them wanted to rush back to watch the All Blacks vs Wallabies game on TV at 3.30pm.
